Microsoft Launches Month‑to‑Month Billing for Microsoft 365 Copilot for Business

Microsoft has announced that month‑to‑month billing for Microsoft 365 Copilot for Business will be available from 1st March, offering organisations a more flexible way to start their AI journey. This shift to Copilot monthly billing lowers the barrier to entry, making it easier for businesses to explore the value of AI without committing to a full annual term straight away.

This update is an important step for SMEs who want to see how AI can support productivity, efficiency, and digital transformation, but prefer to test the waters with shorter commitments first.

Lower commitment – but still worth planning for the long term

While the new monthly option makes it easier to get started, it’s important to go in with the right expectations.

Adopting Copilot isn’t a quick win; it’s a capability you build. To get the most value, organisations need time to:

  • Learn how to use Copilot effectively
  • Develop the right prompts and internal best practices
  • Identify inefficiencies in existing processes
  • Spot opportunities for automation and improvement

Because of this, we still recommend planning to keep your Copilot licences for at least six months. That gives you enough time to fully understand how Copilot supports your teams and where it can make the biggest impact.

A flexible option, but at a higher price

The new Copilot monthly billing option will come at around 20% higher than the annual commitment. For many businesses, this still represents excellent value for the flexibility it provides. Pricing is expected to be roughly £19 per user per month, although Microsoft is yet to officially confirm this.

If you’re unsure whether Copilot is right for your business, or you need a more flexible way to begin experimenting with AI-driven productivity, the monthly option may be the perfect starting point.

What this means for your business

This shift is great news for SMEs who want to explore AI without risk, particularly those still building confidence and capability around digital transformation. Monthly billing makes it easier to begin and once teams start seeing how Copilot fits into everyday tasks, the long‑term value becomes much clearer.

If your organisation has been unsure about when or how to take the leap into AI, this might be the perfect moment.
